In their own words
This summer, while I was playing with my toddler in the oval, a group of adolescents/young adults who are not residents of Newport brought a large pit bull into the area and let it run off-leash. The group was unable to control the dog by voice command, and it ran freely around the oval. This was very frightening for those of us with small children. Private security was not present at the time, and nowhere to be found around the playground, so families with young children had to leave the oval for their own safety. The group remained and continued to play with the unleashed dog.
