Harassment or threatNear path station..August 26, 2026Not reported to police
In their own words
The first incident happened on a weekday evening while I was walking home from work. It was dark, and an individual began shining a flashlight at me. For a moment, I thought it might be someone I knew, so I removed my earphones. He appeared to be a teenager and told me that his father had passed away and they were raising money. They had candies in a small gift bag, showed me a page of information, and asked for a donation. I explained that I did not have cash or my card, but they insisted that I could make a payment using their phones. This made me suspicious, so I politely declined and said I was sorry. He became aggressive and said, “You have the money; you just don’t want to give it to us.” When I declined again, he said, “Suck my d***, b****.” I responded, “F*** off,” walked away, and put my earphones back in. I could still hear someone yelling behind me. I was unsure whether I was being followed, so I walked faster until I reached my building, where I reported the incident to the security guard. The second encounter happened approximately three to four weeks later with the same individuals. When I saw him approaching, I chose a different route to avoid him, but he followed me and said, “Excuse me.” I turned and said, “I’m sorry,” and he repeated the same abusive words. After this second incident, I called 911 and was directed to the police non-emergency line. I left a voicemail explaining what had happened and requesting a callback, but I never received one. These repeated encounters have left me feeling unsafe while walking near my residence.
